Finishes & Coatings

BRIGHT STEEL

Solid iron with bright finish, no protective coating. Ideal for use wherein surface condition, thread fit issues or tolerance may be an issue.

  • Complies with Australian Standards AS3566.1.2002 requirements
  • Recommended for use in dry, internal locations
  • Finish available in Nails only

ELECTRO GALVANISED

Corrosion resistance is provided by a fine layer of Zinc applied by the use of a galvanic cell. The zinc is electro deposited by means of electroplating as the fasteners are dipped in a chemical bath with zinc dissolved within. Electro Galvanising allows for a preferable surface aesthetic being smooth, drip-free and shiny. Ideal as the coating is thin, reducing thread fit issues and is cost effective.

  • Complies with Australian Standards AS3566.1.2002 requirements
Type Coating Thickness  C2 Zone C3 Zone
Nails 5um 7 years 2.5 years
Staples 12um 17 years 6 years

HOT DIP GALVANISED

A maintenance-free method of corrosion protection, Hot Dip Galvanising is one of the oldest and most commonly used methods. The process involves a molten bath of Zinc in which the fasteners are dipped into to produce the Zinc coating. The thickness is more than of Electro Plating and Mechanical Galvanising, offering both a physical and chemical barrier to environmental elements.

  • Complies with Australian Standards AS3566.1.2002 requirements
Type Coating Thickness  C2 Zone C3 Zone
Nails Approx. 55μm 70 years 25 years

MECHANICAL GALVANISED

An 'electroless' process conducted at room temperature, peen plating or mechanical plating is a method wherein zinc powder is deposited onto iron using mechanical energy and heat. Mechanical Galvanising allows for coating uniformity and consistency, to reduce thread fit issues at assembly. An ideal coating method for structural applications.

  • Complies with Australian Standards AS3566.1.2002 requirements
Type Coating Thickness  C2 Zone C3 Zone
Nails Approx. 43μm 50 years 19 years

STAINLESS STEEL

Nails are made from Stainless Steel, an iron-base alloy. Stainless Steel is self-protecting from corrosion and thus, needs no protective coating or layer. Chromium is the alloying element that imparts stainless steel to their corrosion resistance qualities by combining with oxygen to form a thin, invisible chromium oxide protective film on the surface.

  • Complies with Australian Standards AS3566.1.2002 requirements
  • Will not display any discolouration after exposure to elements
  • Self-repairing protective film on surface
